ABOUT US

Preamble

The layout of the Zephania and Mildrate Matanga Medical Centre facilities was carefully designed to promote efficiency and flexibility in the provision of outpatient, maternity, and critical care services, in accordance with national regulations and requirements for healthcare facilities in Zimbabwe. Each building was purpose-built for specific activities, including the outpatient department, maternity care, and critical care services. In addition, laundry and mortuary structures are planned to further enhance disease control at the Centre, ensuring a safe environment for all patients and staff.

The buildings have been constructed to meet appropriate fire and structural safety standards while supporting effective infection control. Clinical wash-hand basins have been installed with taps that can be operated by wrists or elbows, allowing hands and forearms to be washed under running water. The facility layout also supports safe collection and management of healthcare waste, promoting cleanliness and hygiene. A dedicated waste zone has been established, equipped with an incinerator and bottle crusher.

The Medical Centre was designed with economic efficiency in mind, considering construction, maintenance, and operational costs. Simple yet compliant layouts were adopted, using appropriate local materials, intelligent environmental design, and suitable electrical specifications, with an emphasis on renewable energy through solar power. The design ensures comfort for both patients and staff, with three staff houses and one house reserved for the owner’s family and guests, and plans for nine additional houses in the future. Building orientation maximizes cross ventilation and minimizes solar heat gain.

Zephania and Mildrate Matanga Medical Centre fully complies with Zimbabwean standards and building codes for healthcare facilities, which cover design, construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance. All necessary planning permissions and approvals were obtained before construction, and regulatory inspections were conducted at every stage to ensure compliance.
